Artist Picks for 2006: Travis Pants (Please Step Out Of The Vehicle)

It’s fairly easy to trace the roots and influences of the lo-fi, Elephant 6-esque melodies produced by Portland’s Please Step Out Of The Vehicle, but not when paired with singer and guitarist Travis Pants’ selections for the best of 2006. Their sound is often (and justifiably) compared to the likes of Pavement and Neutral Milk Hotel, but judging from some of the picks below, there are clearly other, less obvious influences bubbling just under the surface, waiting to emerge.
10. Sonic Youth – Rather Ripped
9. Quasi – When The Going Gets Dark
8. Quiet Countries – No One Makes A Sound
7. Dykeritz – Snowing Windy Peaches
6. Pavement – Wowee Zowee: Sordid Sentinels Edition
5. Horse Feathers – Words Are Dead
4. Alan Singley+Pants Machine – Loving Kindness
3. Gnarls Barkley – St. Elsewhere
2. Kimya Dawson – Remember That I Love You
1. J Dilla – Donuts
